Ex- NFL star Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to address an murder attempt allegation related to a incident that occurred in May, with his attorney submitting a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Detention documents in Essex, New Jersey, show that Brown was freed on Tuesday morning for his relocation to Florida. Brown, one of the most popular figures in the NFL, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being arrested in Dubai.

Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an message that he has previously lodged a documented innocent plea to the murder attempt charge. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as early as Wednesday morning for a release hearing, Eiglarsh said.

As per his arrest order, Brown is alleged of taking a firearm from a security guard after a celebrity fighting bout in May and shooting multiple shots at a person he had clashed with previously. The reported victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told authorities that one of the bullets touched his throat.

Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was simply safeguarding himself from Nantambu.

“The measures he was forced to take were solely in defense against the claimed person’s hostile behavior. Brown was assaulted that evening and behaved within his rightful privilege to protect himself,” Eiglarsh commented.

Brown was not right away arrested because at first authorities did not identify Nantambu as a victim. It only subsequently in May that Nantambu delivered a complete testimony about the situation to officers and identified Brown as the gunman, the report says.

From his social media content, Brown had been residing in Dubai for multiple months. In a message after the confrontation, Brown said he was safeguarding himself because he was “assaulted by numerous individuals who attempted to rob my jewelry and bring bodily harm to me.”

A second-degree attempted murder accusation in Florida carries a maximum 15-year jail term and up to a ten thousand dollar penalty in the event of a guilty verdict.
